Great accessories come with enormous power. Dodge will soon make extra goodies accessible through its Direct Connection parts catalogue for the 1,000-horsepower Dodge Challenger Demon 170,

so you can race down a drag strip in under nine seconds. They consist of a harness bar, a street wheel/tire package, a parachute attachment system, and a carbon fibre rear seat deletion insert.

Although it may not seem absolutely required, the National Hot Rod Association believes that it is. Every vehicle created after 2014 that completes the quarter-mile in less than nine seconds needs one.

Nevertheless, it's not yet apparent if the harness bar—used, naturally, to attach a harness—meets the NHRA's definition of a safety cage. We've been in touch with Dodge to ask for clarification.

If so, you'll be able to attend NHRA drag races while using Direct Connection's off-the-shelf components. If not, maybe you know a reliable fabricator.

The NHRA mandates that a cage and a chute be used in order to lawfully compete. The Demon 170 is prohibited from NHRA drag tracks in its standard configuration.
