According to his publicist, Mia Hansen, Lance Reddick, an actor most known for playing Cedric Daniels on "The Wire" and for his role in the "John Wick" film series, has passed away.
He was 60. Reddick died unexpectedly on Friday morning "from natural causes," according to Hansen. She remarked that Lance will be deeply missed.
Reddick began his acting career in the 1990s, appearing in episodes of "New York Undercover" and "The West Wing," parts that frequently called for seriousness and passion.
He once told The Guardian that when he was an adolescent growing up in Baltimore, he wanted to be a musician. He stumbled into acting as a way to support his small family and to build a foundation for a career in music.
He started getting jobs in local theatre, and at the age of 29, he applied to Yale University to study acting and was admitted. He finally graduated.
He originally appeared in David Simon's "The Corner," an HBO miniseries that was produced two years before Simon's "The Wire," in New York.

Afterwards, he was cast in his first regular part in the HBO series "Oz," in which he portrayed an undercover cop impersonating a prisoner.
As Lt. Daniels of the Narcotics Unit, Reddick's breakthrough role was given to him by Simon. "The Wire" never became a big hit, but it received a tonne of praise from reviewers and professionals in the field.
Wendall Pierce, who played Reddick on "Wire," described him as a "guy of enormous strength and elegance" in a tribute on Friday.
As gifted a musician as an actor, according to Pierce. "the pinnacle of elegance. A sudden, unforeseen, sharply painful loss for our family of artists. Unfathomable anguish for his own family and close friends. Best wishes, my buddy. Here, you left your mark."
After "The Wire," Reddick continued to amass credits, including a remarkable performance on "Lost," recurring parts in the Fox science fiction series "Fringe," Amazon's "Bosch," and, most recently, the Netflix adaptation of "Resident Evil."
His supporting roles in films includes "One Night in Miami," "Godzilla vs. Kong," and the planned remake of "White Guys Can't Jump," in addition to the "John Wick" series.
Despite his well-known seriousness, Reddick occasionally displayed a lighter side by appearing as a guest star on "Young Sheldon" and "Key and Peele."
In the video games Destiny and Destiny 2, the latter of which got a new expansion published in late February, Reddick also provided the voice of Commander Zavala. He has been the voice of Destiny's vanguard since 2014 and was one among a select group of voice actors in the game.
